Hospitals for Foreigners
Foreigners who do not speak Korean are advised to bring a Korean friend to interpret, or to visit a hospital where English is spoken. Some hospitals in Yongsan-gu operate international medical centers for foreigners.

Dental Treatment
Dental treatment is available at most general hospitals in Yongsan. Dental treatment is also available through private dental clinics in Seoul. These dental clinics provide high quality medical services. Most dentists are able to communicate in English. Some kinds of dental treatment are covered by the health insurance. You are recommended to make a reservation before visiting.
Pharmacies
Pharmacies can be easily located all across Yongsan. Pharmacies are generally open until 8 pm. In most cases, medicine can be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. Over the counter drugs, medical products and health foods that can be purchased without a prescription are also sold at the pharmacy.
Health Insurance
Types of insurance
  • Health insurance is divided into employees’ medical insurance and local medical insurance. Employees who work for an employer with a staff of five or more may enroll in the medical insurance offered by the employer, which can be extended to include medical insurance for their spouse and children. Foreigners who cannot register for employees’ medical insurance shall apply for local medical insurance.
Eligibility
  • Foreigners with an F-2 visa, who are qualified to stay in South Korea permanently
  • Foreigners who are married to a Korean national
  • Foreign residents of South Korea with a D-1, D-2, D-4, D-5, D-6, D-7, D-8, D-9, E-1, E-2, E-3, E-4, E-5, E-7, E-8, F-4 or F-5 visa, and the children of such foreign residents 20 years of age or older with an F-3 visa

Apply at the Headquarters or the Yongsan Branch of the National Health Insurance Service.

Free Medical Treatment for Foreigners
Eligibility

Foreigners who are not covered by medical insurance or medical wages under the medical insurance system, including foreign workers, children of foreign workers, female marriage immigrants who are in the process of naturalization and their children, are eligible for the free treatment service.

Supported amount

One full payment of the cost for hospitalization that incurred an expense of up to KRW 5 million (if the cost exceeds KRW 5 million, up to KRW 10 million in support may be provided following an examination of the circumstances).

  • Treatment cost for one day before hospitalization or surgery. Outpatient treatment cost for three days after an important treatment.

Hospitals for Foreigners

In an emergency, you can always get help by calling 112 (police) or 119 (fire, ambulance, rescue), from anywhere in the country. The emergency center tracks the location of the caller as soon as a call is placed and takes necessary action. All 119 operators can speak basic English.
